Compared to other speakers in this price range (150-200$) these speakers stand above the fray. The sound is so clear and nuanced and I don't have to turn up the volume to hear the details. Great for listening to all kinds of music (classical, jazz, electronic, rock, r&b, and more). For computer speakers there is no comparison unless you move up to a different price range, start including amplifiers, and the like (e.g., an Audioengine 5 system will likely be my next purchase when I can afford it). You will not be disappointed with these!

Over the years, I've run the gamut from mid-range audiophile gear to iPod-class gear. So I have a fair appreciation for the wide range of audio quality. After spending some time with the Audioengine 2's, I can truly say they are "ridiculously good."

Why ridiculously good?
* Sound quality is the best I've heard from such a small size.
* Sound levels (without distortion) are far higher than I've heard from a such a small size.
* Build quality is outstanding, period. At this price, all the more remarkable.
* Bottom-line value: excellent.

I am using the A2's as monitors, connected to both my PC and Sonos. The "mixing" of the two inputs is exactly what I need for such a setup. The soundstage in front of the PC is, well, ridiculously good.

As a crazy experiment, I connected the A2's to my AV setup. While I would never say that the A2's are in "home theater" territory (ridiculously good as they are, there are limits) they managed to fill my 12x15 foot living room surprisingly well. I bring this experiment up for a reason: if you are not dissatisfied with your television's speakers but you are not ready to "do" home theater, the A2's deliver a serious upgrade at a very modest price. Crazy? No, just ridiculous. ;-)
